Our story

How the dream started

The project came out of María Quevedo's vision and nerve. She wanted to build a bright future and a place where “nice things always happened” around a good table, so she went for it and gave this corner a name that says everything: Bonita Vida, a beautiful life, dedicated with love to her children.

The café

The dining room at Bonita Vida, with its Moorish arches and velvet benches.

Two cultures meet: María and Layla

To give the project its soul and its flavour, life brought María Quevedo and Layla Tarzit together. They turned out to be the perfect pair, putting traditional Canarian baking and breakfasts together with the aromas, the spices and the old secrets of Moroccan cooking. That's where our own mix comes from, where a specialty coffee sits happily next to a mint tea and a msemen made by hand.

Our neighbourhood: Schamann

Our story is also tied to the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Opening in Schamann was a decision with a lot of feeling behind it. The neighbourhood was going through a hard time after losing a much-loved local restaurateur, and María felt she had to do something to bring the street back to life, with one idea in mind: “Schamann needs us not to give up on it.”

Bonita Vida opened to bring light, colour, optimism and a lively place to meet to our streets.

What we believe in today

We believe in things made slowly and with heart. That's why only fresh, local produce comes into our kitchen. We want every visit to reach all your senses: from the Moroccan-inspired room to the kind of welcome that makes you feel at home from the first minute.

Come and be part of our story.

Come and enjoy a Bonita Vida.
